A search for “accommodation in Eforie Nord” returns hundreds of results, and the photographs make them all look equally good.
Eforie Nord has hundreds of places to stay: large hotels from the 1970s, old villas on the seafront, new guesthouses on the back streets, apartments let on a hotel basis. The differences between them are not just a matter of the number of stars. They come down to the real distance to the beach, what is included in the price, how quiet the nights are and the way you want to spend your holiday. The guide below helps you choose with a clear head: which area suits you, which type of accommodation, which questions to ask before paying a deposit and what to watch for when you book.
Contents
In short: what really matters
- Distance to the beach, measured in minutes on foot, not in metres “as the crow flies”.
- Breakfast: included or not, buffet or set menu, and between which hours.
- Parking: is there any, is it free, is it guaranteed?
- Quiet: what is under the window in the evening, at 23:00?
- Room orientation and whether there is a balcony.
- Booking conditions: deposit, cancellation, check-in and check-out times.
Accommodation in Eforie Nord: the areas of the resort
On the seafront
This is the most sought-after area. You stay above the beach, walk down the steps in a few minutes and have the promenade at your door. In the morning you see the sunrise from your room or from the terrace. In the evening, the seafront is lively in the centre and quieter towards the ends. The southern end, towards Belona beach, is the most secluded.
Suitable for: families with small children, couples, anyone who does not want to use a car.
In the centre, around the main boulevard
This is where the restaurants, shops, stalls and the amusement park are. You have everything within reach, but also noise until late in high season. The beach is close, but you have to cross the busiest area.
Suitable for: groups of friends, those who want a lively atmosphere.
In the north, towards Agigea
Wide beaches, large hotels with swimming pools and treatment centres. The area is newer and more open, but further from the old seafront.
Suitable for: those looking for a complex with all services in the same grounds.
Towards the lake
The streets on the Lake Techirghiol side have many villas and guesthouses, usually cheaper. They are close to the cold mud baths, but to reach the sea you have to cross the resort, which means ten to fifteen minutes’ walk with all your beach gear.
Suitable for: those who come primarily for the mud cure. See the Lake Techirghiol guide.

Types of accommodation: pros and cons
Large hotel, with many services
- Pros: swimming pool, restaurant, sometimes a treatment centre and children’s entertainment; everything in one place.
- Cons: crowds at meals and at the lifts in high season, an impersonal atmosphere, standardised rooms.
Boutique hotel
- Pros: few rooms, attention to detail, staff who know you by the second day, usually a building with character and a story.
- Cons: fewer resort-style facilities; anyone who wants water slides and entertainers has to look elsewhere.
Villa or guesthouse
- Pros: lower price, a homely atmosphere, sometimes a garden and a kitchen.
- Cons: very uneven quality from one to the next, rarely breakfast, usually further from the beach.
Apartment let on a hotel basis
- Pros: space, kitchen, privacy; good for long stays.
- Cons: no reception, no breakfast, no daily cleaning; parking is often a problem.
Why included breakfast matters
It seems a detail, but it changes the holiday day. At the seaside, morning is the best part of the beach day: gentle sun, clear water, free space on the sand. With breakfast at the hotel, you are on the beach at 8:30. Without it, you lose an hour looking for an open terrace, with hungry children in tow.
Always ask:
- whether breakfast is included in the advertised rate;
- whether it is a buffet or a set menu;
- between which hours it is served.
And a tip for those thinking about all-inclusive: honestly work out how much you will actually eat at the hotel. On the coast, part of the pleasure of a holiday is the fish on the terraces and the evening stroll; many people pay for meals they do not take.
Distance to the beach: read between the lines
“200 metres from the beach” can mean two minutes or fifteen, if between you and the sand there are a fence, a busy street and a detour to the only staircase. Ask for the distance in minutes on foot and ask where you go down.
Especially with children, the difference between three minutes and fifteen is the difference between an easy holiday and a tiring one: you make the trip four times a day, with toys, towels and a sleeping child in your arms. We went into more detail in the guide Eforie Nord with children.
The room: what to ask for
- A sea view does not mean the same thing everywhere. Ask whether it is a front or a side view, and from which floor.
- Orientation. East-facing rooms get the sun in the morning and are cooler in the afternoon. West-facing ones heat up towards evening.
- The balcony. At the seaside, it is a second room: that is where towels dry and where you drink your coffee.
- Air conditioning, essential in July and August.
- The lift, if you are coming with a pushchair, a lot of luggage or elderly parents.
- The extra bed or a cot for the child: ask for it when you book, not on arrival.
Parking
In high season, parking is the scarcest resource in Eforie Nord. On many streets you have to pay, and the spaces near the beach fill up early in the morning. Ask whether the hotel has its own car park, whether it is free and whether the space is guaranteed or “subject to availability”. How to get there and how to get around without a car is explained in the guide how to get to Eforie Nord.
Ten questions to ask before you book
- How many minutes is it on foot to the beach, and where do you go down?
- Is breakfast included? Between which hours?
- Is there parking? Is it free?
- Does the room have a balcony? Facing which direction?
- Which floor is it on, and is there a lift?
- From what time is check-in, and until what time must the room be vacated?
- What deposit is paid, and under what conditions can the booking be cancelled?
- Are holiday vouchers accepted?
- What is nearby in the evening: terraces, music, traffic?
- Do children get a reduced rate or an extra bed?
When to book, and how
For July and August, especially for weekends and for the week around 15 August, the good rooms go from spring. For June and September you have more time, and the rates are usually lower. We compared the periods in the article when to go to the seaside in Eforie Nord.
Booking directly, by phone or e-mail, has an advantage that platforms do not: you speak to someone who knows the building. You can ask for a particular room, ask what can be seen from the window and find out things that do not fit on a fact sheet. Always ask for written confirmation, stating the dates, the room type, the rate and the cancellation conditions.
Common mistakes
- You choose by price and find out that you pay for parking and breakfast separately. Compare the total, not the rate per night.
- You trust old photographs. Look for recent images and ask when the room was last renovated.
- You do not check the check-in time. If you arrive in the morning, find out where you can leave your luggage.
- You book “with sea view” without asking what it means.
- You take a room above a terrace with music, with a child who falls asleep at 21:00.
An example: Hotel Belona, on the seafront
We write this guide from Hotel Belona, so it is only fair to apply the same questions to ourselves. Here are the answers.
- Where it is: on the seafront, at its southern end, at 9 Tudor Vladimirescu Street, in the quieter part of the resort.
- How far to the beach: two to three minutes on foot, by the steps, to Belona beach.
- Breakfast: included, as a buffet.
- Parking: free, subject to available spaces.
- Lift: yes, the building has four floors.
- Rooms: standard doubles, twin doubles, superior doubles, junior suites and one apartment. The rooms face south and east, towards the sea.
- Check-in and check-out: check-in from 18:00, rooms to be vacated by 12:00.
- Reception: 24 hours, in season.
- Anything else: a café bar on the terrace above the beach. The hotel has no restaurant for lunch and dinner; the resort’s terraces are a walk along the seafront away.

What you will not find at another hotel is the building itself. Belona is a Grade A historic monument, designed by the architect George Matei Cantacuzino in the shape of a ship and inaugurated in August 1933. On its terrace, in June 1935, Nicolae Titulescu gave a tea party, according to the newspaper Dimineața. The story is on the page The history of the place and in the article why it is called “the ship on the seafront”.

Who it suits: those who want to stay on the seafront, close to the beach, in a quiet place with a story. Who it does not suit: those looking for a swimming pool, entertainment and all-inclusive meals.
For now, bookings are made by phone, on +40 21 555 25 70, or by e-mail, at belona@avenuehotels.ro.
What to do once you have booked
Once the accommodation is chosen, the rest of the holiday is easy to plan. A few starting points:
- Things to do in Eforie Nord, the complete guide;
- Tourist attractions near Eforie Nord, for day trips;
- The history of the resort, so you know where you are treading.
Three situations, three choices
Family with two small children, one week in July
The priorities are the distance to the beach, included breakfast, the lift and quiet at night. A larger room or a suite, on the seafront, away from the terraces with music, is worth more than a swimming pool. Book from spring and tell them the children’s ages.
Couple, an extended weekend in September
Atmosphere, the balcony and the view matter. A small hotel with character is the natural choice. In September you can find a room even two or three weeks ahead, and the seafront is almost entirely yours.
Elderly parents, two weeks of treatment
Here, access to treatment decides. If the procedures take place in a treatment centre, the most convenient accommodation is right there or very close by. The lift and the absence of stairs are essential; ask about them explicitly.
About reviews: how to read them
- Look at the date. A review from five years ago describes a different hotel from today’s, especially if it has since been renovated or changed management.
- Read the middle reviews. The three- and four-star ones are usually the most balanced and the most specific.
- Look for patterns. An isolated complaint says nothing. The same complaint repeated by ten people says a lot.
- Check what mattered to the author. Someone upset that there is no entertainment is unwittingly giving you good news, if you are looking for quiet.
- Look at the guests’ photographs, not just the official ones.
Holiday vouchers and payment
Many places to stay on the coast accept holiday vouchers, but not all, and not always for every service. Before booking, ask whether they are accepted, what they can be used for and whether the deposit can also be paid with them. Ask for an invoice in the holder’s name. When paying by card or transfer, keep the proof of payment and the written booking confirmation until the end of your stay.
What the stars mean, in brief
The star classification is based on measurable facilities: room size, whether there is a lift, a reception, air conditioning. It does not measure atmosphere, staff friendliness, the view or the quiet. Two hotels with the same number of stars can offer completely different holidays. That is why the questions above tell you more than the stars on the sign.
